Exclusive: Bollywood's friends who turned foes
Tales of stars who fell out with the filmmakers and vowed never to work with them again
Sanjay Leela Bhansali may have been the one who gave Ranbir Kapoor his big break in Bollywood, but looks like this is one director-actor duo who may never really bother to work together again.
There has been much speculation on how the actor has had a fall out with his mentor post Saawariya and, if sources are to be believed, nothing much has changed.
Bollywood's current Rockstar was apparently the first choice for My friend Pinto, produced by Bhansali. But since Ranbir failed to respond, Prateik was roped in.
Says a source, "The role in the film is of a guy who will do anything for a friend. It's an emotional and sensitive subject and the makers thought Ranbir would be able to pull it off pretty well. He was in fact given the script as well, but he did not really get back with a yes or a no."
There have been innumerable stories about differences of opinion between the two during the making of Saawariya. Since it was his first film and also since Bhansali was at his prime at the time with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, there was bound to be a little friction.
Adds the source, "We all know that Bhansali is a taskmaster. So there were enough times when he would get tough with Sonam and Ranbir.
That, however, was part of the process of making the film and obviously a learning experience for the actor who has turned out to be such a fine talent post his debut."
However, Ranbir obviously seems to be in no mood to let bygones be bygones. The actor almost seems to have sworn to never work with the man who he also worked with as assistant director.
Director of My Friend Pinto Raghav Dar refuses to confirm the story. "There is no such thing. Prateik was always the first choice for the role."
Interestingly, Ranbir's famous towel dropping scene in Saawariya has somehow found its way in My Friend Pinto.
This time, however, it is apparently Prateik who bares all! However, Ranbir, denies being offered the film.
Friendships gone kaput
Farah Khan vs Shahrukh Khan
SRK delivered two of the biggest hits of his career (Main Hoon na and Om Shanti Om) with Farah, but the two haven't worked together ever since.
Apparently Farah was supposed to make Tees Mar Khan with SRK who could not find time for the project. Farah eventually ended up to casting Akshay in the film.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan vs Madhur Bhandarkar
Post the announcement of Aishwarya's pregnancy, Madhur went on to to say how she had hid the news from the producers of Heroine, which eventually brought an indefinite halt to his dream project..
Sanjay Gupta vs Sanjay Dutt
The two were thick, as thieves at one point but today Dutt and Gupta cannot see eye to eye. The big clash happened post Gupta's film Shootout At Lokhandwala.
Allegedly, he did not pay the salary of a certain company employee, but Dutt took the employee's side. Rumours of major showdown between the two were confirmed after Gupta's film Alibaug was stalled indefinitely and also when Sanjay was no more a part of Gupta's Shootout at Wadala.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali vs Salman Khan
Salman Khan was Bhansali's blue-eyed boy with films like Khamoshi and Hum Dil De Chike Sanam.
But things went bad when the actor went ahead and spoke ill of Bhansali's film Guzaarish.
Salman told the press in jest how even dogs wouldn't watch the film, post which there has almost been a war of words between the two.
Ram Gopal Verma vs Aamir Khan
RGV has one on record to say that he would never do a film with Aamir because he does not have the kind of dedication or patience Aamir does.
Stories of cold war between the two were doing the rounds ever since Rangeela days.
Ram Gopal Verma has also had a major fall out with his most successful muse Urmila Matondkar.

Salman Khan with Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham
